Meet Mrs. Black!
My name is Melissa Black and I am so happy to be your 2nd grade teacher! My husband, Charlie, is a counselor at the Hastings Middle School. We have two sons, Marcus (age 9) and Donovan (age 8). We love spending time together playing and attending sporting events, hiking, biking, fishing, camping, going to concerts, reading, watching movies, hanging out in our backyard, and being with our extended families and friends. I also really enjoy cooking and baking healthy foods for my family, taking care of my flower gardens, and reading (realistic fiction and historical fiction are my favorites)!
I completed my BA in Elementary Education with a Spanish minor at the College of Saint Benedict in 2002. My first teaching position was as a K-4 Spanish teacher in West St. Paul where I created and implemented an elementary Spanish program and worked closely with native Spanish-speaking families. In 2006 I completed my Master of Arts in Education through Saint Mary's University of Minnesota.
I started teaching 2nd grade at Pinecrest in the fall of 2006 and love it so much that I'm still there today! I am passionate about making learning fun and enjoyable for my students and about working together with families for the success of the students.
My hope is that your child grows socially, emotionally, and academically in my classroom and that we can all work together for a successful second grade year!
